Yes, King & Queen Mattress Co. is a 100% Online Mattress Company, but let’s make one thing clear about our beds…
Unlike almost every other online mattress company, we do NOT manufacture or offer ANY type of ‘Bed-in-a-Box’ whatsoever.
What’s a ‘Bed-in-a-Box?’
For those of you who are not familiar with the term, we define a Bed-in-a-Box as…
“A mattress made almost entirely of memory foam with no innerspring support system, so that it can be tightly compressed and rolled up to fit in as small of a box as possible (as shown in image above)”
Why do most internet mattress companies sell these types of beds online?
Well, because they’re much cheaper to manufacture, ship and deliver…
Foam in general is inexpensive to manufacture, which makes bed-in-a-box mattresses much cheaper to make when compared to innerspring beds… They also weigh much less and are able to be contoured and rolled up air tight when packaged to fit into smaller boxes. These boxes are able to fit on your everyday delivery truck (like FedEx and UPS), which allows online mattress retailers to ship it direct to the consumer as ‘cheaply’ as possible…
There can be pros to buying a Bed-in-a-Box, primarily around price and convenience.
Since these beds are so much cheaper to make and ship, Bed-in-a-Box companies are able to sell them for less than innerspring mattresses… It’s going to cost less than a $1,000, no matter what size you need. Being able to have them shipped to your front door through standard carriers like UPS and FedEx makes it quick and easy to get them delivered as well, and in a lot of cases, the shipping is built into the price.
When the Bed-in-a-Box arrives on the customer’s doorstep, they roll it into the room of choice, and the unboxing begins… But be careful, this thing is packed tight! Exhibit A:
(She’s okay. Thankfully! 😳)
Other than the bed potentially taking you out during the unboxing, there are significant cons that come with ordering a Bed-in-a-Box that you should consider…
#1 – Bed in a Box Mattresses are Not Built to Provide Lasting Support
Don’t take our word for it, go read the reviews online. After a year or two (sometimes less), the foam in these beds will break down and start to give way. We aren’t chiropractor’s here, but it’s no secret that your body and spine need support when you sleep. Unless you weigh under 100 lbs, foam bed-in-a-box beds are not built to provide support night-in, night-out over time. The more weight that’s compressed on it, the quicker it will wear out. Bottom line.
Sometimes, the effectiveness of a Bed-In-a-Box can be hindered even before you sleep on it! Once the bed expands (or in some cases, explodes 🤣) out of the packaging, it will attempt to fully inflate back to its original mattress form. This can even take days and sometimes, the foam will not even fully reinflate to the mattress corners, as shown in the image below…
#2 – Bed in a Box Mattresses Typically Sleep Hotter 😅
If you are someone who constantly feels hot when trying to sleep, 🔥 then a bed-in-a box memory foam mattress may not be the right fit for you. The reason for this is that synthetic memory foam naturally traps heat and limits air-circulation, which also leads to ‘off-gassing’, which brings us to our third point…
#3 – Bed in a Box Mattresses Have a Tendency to Smell Due to Off-Gassing 🤢
Another issue with bed-in-a-box mattresses that many consumers have complained about is the tendency for memory foam to smell, especially when it’s new out of the box. The synthetic memory foams used to make most bed-in-a-box mattresses contain certain chemicals which can have a distinct odor, and it’s strongest when the mattress is first taken out of the box.
Like we mentioned, it can take a few days or more for a bed-in-a-box mattress to fully reinflate after unboxing and in most cases, the smell – released via a process known as off-gassing – will linger during this time frame. The smell will usually disappear within a couple of days, but still, for those sensitive to smells and the chemicals that cause them, the odor associated with a memory foam mattress will be unpleasant…
Now, let’s compare the above with a luxury, innerspring mattress from King & Queen Mattress Company…
At King & Queen, we do not offer some condensed, fully foam mattress that’s tightly rolled up, packed and sealed air-tight into a little box that fits nicely on your normal neighborhood delivery truck…
We offer a premium, hand-crafted, luxury innerspring mattress that was made to provide your body with the support it needs for years.
Our mattresses are not folded, bent, or rolled up during shipping!
That would literally be impossible. Our beds come packaged in a full size mattress pallet straight from our factory in North Georgia, delivered to your home, for free… Unlike the Bed-in-a-Box’s, the form and shape of our mattresses are never compromised in the packaging, shipping & delivery process and they arrive 100% ready to sleep on straight out of the packaging (no waiting on it to grow back to full size)!
Even better, our professional delivery team will hand deliver and set up your new mattress in the room of your choice, for no extra charge!

So, does King & Queen not use memory foam in its beds?
Great question. Answer: NO
While we do not utilize memory foam made with harmful gases and chemicals, we do utilize CertiPUR-US® Certified foams, making it chemical free and promoting a safe and eco-friendly environment inside of your home. We use this foam as a support layer in our beds to simply aid in comfort, NOT to comprise the entire mattress like memory foam bed-in-a-box’s. We layer our CertiPUR-US® support foam on top of the pocketed coil innersprings, and then encase the foam with our Organic Talalay Latex Pillow Top and complete with our signature custom mattress cover to deliver the perfect blend of support, comfort and responsive feel…
The finishing touch? 100% Hand-Sewn Needle Tufts, stitched right here in our North Georgia Factory by our manufacturing team…
Okay, so what about the price?
We thought you’d never ask!
Our beds are shipped straight from our factory to your door. That means: no commissioned sales people, no overhead, and no increased markups… Just a luxury, innerspring mattress at a factory direct price!
You will not find a better, more quality mattress for the price.
Simply put, if you’re just looking for a flimsy, memory foam bed for the guest bedroom or a vacation house that gets used a few times a year, then maybe a Bed-in-a-Box is right for you…
